MA - another mild Monday, another shrike in Gill
Last Monday, an incredibly mild and balmy late November day, I had the great fortune to find a Northern Shrike in a field of rough pasture along Main Road in Gill. Despite checking the same field every day since, I haven't seen it again. This afternoon, quite literally seconds after picking my son up from Gill Elementary School, we came across this beauty along Boyle Road. It was teed up in a spindly sapling overlooking rough pasture, a mere 3/4 mile north-east (as the shrike flies) from the previous location. I'm inclined to think it's the same adult working a large territory along Main Road in Gill. This one didn't stay for long and may have been disturbed by the heavy school traffic. Either way, it was a fairly typical brief shrike experience......Matan only saw it when it flew but I did manage to get a few record shots.
