Many of the images on the Pioneer Birding blog have been digi-scoped using a Canon Powershot compact digital camera (mostly the A590) hand held against a Swarovski HD telescope. Images of birds in flight have been taken in a similar manner but through Leica Ultravid 8 x 42 binoculars. Both methods have produced highly variable results, but often provide identifiable record shots . In particular, some 'digi-bin' shots have proven instrumental in documenting rare seabirds and raptors. More recently, I've been experimenting with one of the so-called super-zoom cameras, the Panasonic Lumix FZ40, again with rather mixed results. In addition, my trusty old Leica Trinovid 10x42 bins, now fully operational again after a complete overall from Leica, have been dusted off and have replaced my Leica Ultravid 8x42s.
