Swung by Montague on my way out this morning and was pleased to see and hear the Henslow's Sparrow still singing vigorously in the middle of the same field off Meadow Road. Dull, foggy, almost autumnal conditions meant that my struggle for a decent image of this bird goes on!
Henslow's Sparrow. Singing just off Meadow Road, Montague, Franklin Co., MA. July 1st, 2009.
I saw it this past Sunday and am glad to see it's still there. Glad for the rain too (I can't believe I just said that), so they won't hay that field anytime soon.
That's a nice bird James. Considering taking a ride up this weekend, if time allows, and if the field is still intact. Hope your summer is going well! Doing any pelagics this year?
Just all of the images on the Pioneer Birding blog have been digiscoped using a Canon Powershot compact digital camera (currently the A590) handheld against a Swarovski HD telescope. Images of birds in flight are usually taken in a similar manner but through Leica Ultravid 8 x 42 binoculars. Both methods produce a variety of results but can really make the difference between having a decent record shot or not. In particular, 'digibin' shots can be especially crucial in documenting rare seabirds, raptors or swifts for example. A few examples can be seen at my website in addition to this blog.
